Useful advice for parents of our Young Learners
Written by teacher Marina Vukušić
In this challenging academic year (with our courses being delivered partially or fully online), our young learners will be using OUP's Bright Ideas textbook. This book utilizes modern teaching approaches and inquiry-based learning and combined with grammar and vocabulary necessary for the 21st century.
The book is based on a corresponding website and online communication, which are embedded with questions relevant for children. Our students are encouraged to research the information and seek answers to these questions, preferably working in teams. Through this process, your child will absorb information, express opinions and experiences, and is motivated to produce their own answers to questions asked.
In addition, this textbook covers language skills and competences necessary for Cambridge English Qualification exams.
As texts are based on a variety of cultures, your child will learn to read and interpret different styles, including blog posts, display boards, news articles, legends and postcards. Every unit contains a special lessons designed to improve their writing skills, aiming to develop a personalized writing style and improve typography.
We are all aware that at their age it is equally important for learning content to just as fun as it is educational; therefore, we selected a textbook that is interesting, innovative and engaging. As the title suggests, Bright Ideas is filled with different ideas and questions that spark curiosity. In addition to language learning, it also aims to improve 21st century skills such as critical thinking, communication, cooperation and creativity.
At Jantar, we recognize parental support as an important factor in your child's language learning process. Therefore, we bring you a few pieces of advice on how you can participate in their active education:
- encourage your child to talk about the Big Question (which appears in every unit) with other members of your family
- ask your child to sing a song they learned in class
- help your child acquire materials necessary for completing school projects
- review their work/homework and ask them about their favorite in-class activities
- praise your child regularly!
Enjoy the Bright Ideas adventure with your child!
