European day of languages: celebration of language diversity and different lifestyles
How many times do we hear someone say: "I don't have the time", "I lack talent", "Languages are hard"? Nothing is hard if we put in the effort and keep at it!
Today, migration of people is a common occurrence - people travel abroad in search of better opportunities and English became standard language of internet and business meetings. Traveling abroad requires us to speak foreign languages and it is a special kind of satisfaction when we find ourselves in a foreign country speaking their language and using words that are so different than ours. We have to admit: speaking foreign languages opens many doors, makes us proud, allows us to "practice" brain functions and even have fun.
There are approximately 200 different languages and dialects spoken in Europe. They are a window into a different lifestyle, diversity of culture and customs. They teach us tolerance, different beliefs and virtues, recognizing differences and similarities. It is no wonder that millions enjoy watching Eurosong, participate in regional festivals, tasting different cuisines, exploring international books and movies. Discovering the different was never as easy thanks to technology and travel. Younger or older, speaking languages will always have a special place in our life, helping us become global citizens.
European day of languages is celebrated on September 26 across Europe to point out the importance of language competence, promote cultural diversity and enhance lifelong learning as well as personal growth and development. In our classrooms we will mark this day through games, quizzes and projects which will be integrated in our classes the entire first day of this academic year. What are "false friends" in languages? What is the difference between meet and meat? Do you know all your European flags? Let this week be an exciting introduction into the new academic year of educational victories. You still have time to become a part of our community. Join us and let's celebrate our love towards languages together, have some fun and learn something new.
